Shipping policy

Effective August 20, 2026

What this covers

This policy applies to orders placed through shop.highwoodwhisky.com, our Shopify storefront. The marketing site at highwoodwhisky.com does not process orders; the storefront does, under its own terms of sale.

Retail purchases made through a provincial liquor store (AGLC, LCBO, SAQ, BCLDB, NSLC, and the like), a private retailer, or a bar/restaurant are governed by that seller, not by us. We do not ship those orders.

Where we ship

Highwood is licensed by the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission (AGLC) and ships throughout Canada, with the exception of Quebec, Newfoundland and Labrador, and New Brunswick, and select dry communities where alcohol delivery is prohibited, in keeping with provincial liquor regulations.

Inter‑provincial shipping of spirits in Canada is governed by each receiving province’s liquor authority. Where the receiving province permits direct‑to‑consumer shipments from an out‑of‑province distillery, we ship. Where it does not, we do not. The available destinations are shown at checkout based on your postal code; if a province is not listed, the local rules do not allow it at this time.

  • Shipped within Alberta: yes, by carrier with adult signature.
  • Shipped to other Canadian provinces: where the receiving province’s liquor authority permits direct‑to‑consumer shipping. Checkout will tell you.
  • International shipping: not available from this storefront. Outside Canada, look for Highwood through your local importer.

Pickup at the distillery

We do not release orders for pickup at the distillery. Every order placed on this storefront ships.

We appreciate the requests. We prefer the system in place: it facilitates regulatory compliance as well as company direct sale controls, traceability and accountability.

Adult signature on delivery

Every shipment requires the signature of a person of legal drinking age in the destination province. We use Canada Post’s Adult Signature service or the equivalent from the carrier we use for your address. The carrier will not leave a parcel unattended and will not hand it to anyone who appears to be under legal drinking age, even with a signature.

If no qualifying adult is available, the carrier will leave a delivery notice and hold the parcel for pick‑up. Bring government‑issued photo ID.

Carriers and timing

We ship via Canada Post by default, with a couriered option where available. Orders usually ship within two business days of being placed.

Typical transit, after pick‑up:

  • Within Alberta: 2 to 4 business days.
  • Other shipping‑eligible provinces: 4 to 8 business days depending on distance and carrier.
  • Remote and northern addresses: longer; the carrier’s posted estimate applies.

Transit times are estimates from the carrier. We do not control them. A tracking number is emailed at pick‑up so you can follow the parcel.

Shipping fees and taxes

Shipping is a flat $19.62 per order anywhere we ship, and free on orders of $150 or more. The flat charge covers a corrugated shipper with bottle inserts, recycled packing material, and the cost of the carrier’s adult‑signature service.

Where the receiving province requires markup, recovery, or container deposit on top of the listed price, those amounts are added at checkout. We do not absorb them; the storefront shows them as a separate line so you see what is going to whom.

Tracking your order

Once the parcel is in the carrier’s hands you receive an email with a tracking number and a link to the carrier’s tracking page. From that point forward, the carrier’s information is the live source; we see the same updates you do.

If a tracking number stops updating for more than three business days, write to us at info@caldera.ca and we will open an investigation with the carrier on your behalf.

Lost or damaged parcels

If your parcel arrives damaged, do not throw the packaging out. Take photos of the outer carton, the inner shipper, and the contents. Write to us within 7 days of delivery with the photos and your order number. We will replace damaged bottles or refund them, at your choice, once we have filed a claim with the carrier.

If the carrier marks a parcel delivered but you did not receive it, contact us within 14 days. We will open an investigation. Carrier investigations typically take 5 to 10 business days to resolve.

Returns and refunds

Federal and provincial law restricts the return of opened or partially consumed alcohol; we cannot accept those returns. Unopened bottles in their original packaging may be returned within 30 days of delivery, with prior authorisation from us, at the buyer’s shipping cost. Refunds are issued to the original payment method within 7 business days of the returned parcel being received in good condition.

Refunds for damaged or lost shipments under the section above are issued in full, including original shipping, once the carrier claim is resolved.

Provincial restrictions

Alcohol shipping in Canada is provincial; the rules are not uniform. Some provinces require all spirits to move through the provincial liquor authority’s warehouse before reaching a private address; others permit direct shipments from a licensed distillery; a few do not permit out‑of‑province direct shipments at all. The destinations available at checkout reflect the current state of those rules.

If the rules change, our checkout list changes. We do not work around provincial law; if a route is closed, please look for Highwood through your local liquor store or licensee.

Changes to this policy

We update this policy when carrier rates change, when a province’s liquor rules change, or when our own operations change. The effective date at the top of the page reflects the current revision.
